About us
Centre for Initiatives Against Destitution and Crime (CIADEC) is a Non-Governmental, Non- Political and Non-Profit making organization established in July 2002 by a group of young, visionary and committed Youths whose experience from visitation to various prison yards and hospitals as volunteer social workers agitated their minds and propelled them in seeking to assist the society and victims of circumstances in order to drastically reduce the effects of destitution and crime in the society. The organization prioritizes two of the direct fallouts of poverty i.e. Destitution and Crime. CIADEC strongly combines its indirect efforts with Crime control agencies to combat crime, while it establishes direct, strategic and continuous relationship with the larger society to alleviate perennial problems of destitution.Since the notion of destitution can be closely related to the situation of lack of basic needs and can equally be associated with crime. CIADEC therefore aims to provide an enabling environment for individuals by improving their living conditions. Recent events demonstrate that the present day Nigerian environment denies the less privileged any true joy of living. The less privileged continues to suffer the effects of war, poverty, ignorance, mal-nutrition, under-nutrition, starvation, diseases, exploitation, oppression and neglect. The recent increases in the different forms of child abuse, exploitation, and suffering in rural areas of Nigeria is extremely distressing. Under the guise of tradition and poverty, less privileged continue to be exploited, oppressed and marginalized by so-called power-that-be whose job it is to protect, provide and care for them.
